Chibok Peanut Initiative 2025 Pilot Project
The Chibok Peanut Initiative is an impact borne out of the Mothers of Chibok documentary, which spotlights resilient mothers whose daughters were abducted by Boko Haram from their school in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014. These women persevere through farming to fight for their children’s education and futures. Mothers of Chibok: The Impact channels these stories into a sustainable, community driven peanut farming and marketing system where women retain most profits to fund schooling and break poverty cycles.
This community-driven intervention targeted nine women farmers, providing them with improved SAMNUT 23 groundnut seeds, comprehensive agronomic training, and sustained in-field mentorship. The pilot was strategically designed to address critical constraints which includes access to quality inputs, technical knowledge, and post-harvest management, that have historically limited yields and household income.
Key outcomes confirm the project’s effectiveness; the initiative achieved a 100% average increase in groundnut yields compared to the 2024 baseline. The final harvest of approximately 176 bags against a target of 214 represents an 82% achievement rate, indicating strong progress.
Beyond quantitative gains, the project fostered significant capacity building, both for the participating women who reported increased confidence and skills, and for the locally trained Community Agricultural Field Assistants (CAFAs) who now serve as a sustainable technical resource.
